Texas Redistricting Data - P.L. 94-171

This product contains summary population counts for two universes, total population and population 18 years and over. The data were derived from the basic questions asked on all census questionnaires. These are often called the 100-percent questions. This file contains four tables:
  • a count of all persons by race.
  • a count of the population 18 years and over by race.
  • a count of Hispanic or Latino and a count of not Hispanic or Latino by race for all persons.
  • a count of Hispanic or Latino and a count of not Hispanic or Latino by race for the population 18 years and over.

Raw Data to Download
Total and voting age populations are presented in three formats to download: ASCII files available in zipped format contain the greatest geographic detail (to the census block level) for all race and ethnic groups. Comma-delimited (CSV) files for the state, counties, whole places, and part places within counties, provide all race and ethnic groups. Profiles in a printable format for counties, whole places, and part places within counties provide aggregated race categories and Hispanic/Latino groups.

Comparing Race/Ethnicity Between the 2000 Census and Earlier Censuses
By allowing respondents the option of marking one or more racial categories, the data provided by the 2000 Census is not directly comparable to the race/ethnicity data from earlier censuses. This section offers a discussion of this issue and options for categorizing current data to be roughly compatible with racial and ethnic groups utilized in earlier decades. NOTE: All tables in this section should be referenced as data from 2000 Census of Population, U.S. Bureau of the Census as compiled by the Texas State Data Center, University of Texas at San Antonio.
Descriptive Tables
Population by state, counties, whole places, Council of Government Regions, Metropolitan Status Areas, and Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Listings show 2000 Census populations and population change from previous decades. Tables are presented alphabetically by area and ranked by population size or change. Reference maps show locations of counties, Councils of Governments, Metropolitan Status Areas, and Metropolitan Statistical Areas and maps showing distributions by county are available in the Texas Maps section in this link. NOTE: All tables and maps in this section should be referenced as data from 2000 Census of Population, U.S. Bureau of the Census as compiled by the Texas State Data Center, University of Texas at San Antonio.
