Descriptive Data Tables From the 2000 Census Summary File 3

Summary File 3 - User Notes:

User Note 1:
The data utilized for Descriptive Tables are taken directly from the U.S. Census Bureau's Summary File 3 (SF3) and reflect their data collection, tabulation and presentation procedures. The SF3 file contains data based on the Census 2000 sample or long form questionnaire, therefore these data are estimates of the values that would have been obtained from a complete count. The data derived from sample counts will be different from the 100-percent values and may also vary from those in other sources of sample data, for example, some figures from SF3 will not match the Demographic Profiles the Census Bureau released in May 2002.

User Note 2:
As the SF3 file contains data based on the Census 2000 sample or long form questionnaire, these data are estimates of the values that would have been obtained from a complete count. Estimates derived from sample data are less reliable for small population groups. Users are cautioned that small population samples (either for a geographic area which contains few inhabitants or for a specific racial/ethnic group with few respondents for a given variable) can produce nonrepresentative values for some data items.

User Note 3:
For a more complete understanding of the content on any given table and for definitions of specific items, users should refer to the SF3 Technical Documentation.

User Note 4:
The total provided for any given data item may deviate from those in other tables or from other sources depending on the universe used for a specific table. For example, values provided on Population tables will not always equal those provided on Housing tables. Also, not every household responding to the long-form provided all necessary data to compute some factors, therefore the universe for a given table may not be inclusive of the entire population. For example, poverty tables and percentages are calculated using the population for whom poverty status could be determined not the total population.
